Inaugural OKDS Frozen Chains Putting League opens in Melville.

Balcarres, Sask.’s Gage McKay Broke through to lead Week 1 of the inaugural Frozen Chains Putting League presented by OKDS on Jan. 8.

A total of 17 players participated in the opening day of the putting league season, the first ever to be held in Melville. McKay nailed 60 per cent of his putts for 123 points. His lead was toppled by Vernon’s Donnie Siddall who sits with 177 points and a 49% hit-rate after two weeks of play there.

McKay slid to fifth in the infancy of the national rankings, falling behind Siddall (152/50%), Jonny Munke (149/39%), Jordan Mazereeuw (145/44%), James Ware (144/37%) and Stephen Porcaro (125/41%), all from Vernon, British Columbia.

The OKDS (Okanagan Disc Supply) Frozen Chains Putting League was established this year at seven locations throughout Western Canada, including Melville, Vernon, Dawson Creek, B.C., Kamloops, B.C., Kelowna, B.C. and elsewhere.

The Melville satellite location opened play on Jan. 8. McKay led the Open division and jumped to the league lead in shot-ratio with his 60% rate. Reed Wishnevetski of Melville sits second with 77 points on a 45% hit-rate, while Arlen Nickel of Regina has third (77/43%).

Chelsea Kirschman led the Women’s division with eight point, followed by Kyla Wishnevetski at six points. Dan Coomber (55/37%) jumped to the front of the Intermediate competition, followed by Nolan Schlechter (45/29%) and Dallas Stevenson (43/31%).

The Beginner division had Bryan Seis with 19 points followed by Calla Coomber with three.

Melville hosts its Frozen Chains Putting League at Miller School 2 p.m. every Sunday through the next six weeks.
