Ritskes wins tight battle for 2022 MVP Space Race Swift Current

(Photo: IG @ironwolf4579) Swift Current athlete Isaac Ritskes punched a minus-15 in early-winter conditions to win the 2022 MVP Space Race at Riverside Park Disc Golf Course on Nov. 12. Ritskes was a member of a packed field of 36 hardy competitors attending the satellite event. Mild conditions leading up to the event suggested players would get one last chance at a snowless 2022 tournament. Instead, about four inches of snow fell during the lead-up week, forcing players to reach into their bag of tricks for winter golf earlier than expected. "It surpassed my expectations, definitely," said Swift Current Space Race tournament director (TD) Patty Putts . McKays reclaim Universal Bush disc golf belts

WBDGCU title holders Gage and Ian McKay with Tournament Director Chris Istace (centre) For the first time tournament history, the World Bush Disc Golf Championships of the Universe (WBDGCU) has repeat title-holders after a tight shoot-out at Rocanville Trail Disc Golf Course on Oct. 1. Two years after claiming the WBDGCU belts, the father-son doubles team of Ian and Gage McKay from Peepeekisis First Nation hoisted the leather and brass trophies again, posting the top score of minus-20 through two 18-hole rounds of golf. The McKays sat in a three-way tie for first place at minus-eight after Round One with Ryan Tardif/Andrew Savage and Evan Drader/Dan Fortier. The ultimate champs had more to say in Round Two, however, blasting a minus-12 and taking the championship by two strokes over Drader and Fortier (-8, -10/-18). Rocanville Trail representatives Josh and Chris Istace rounded out the podium in third place at minus-14 after defeating Tardif/Savage on a scorecard countback. A birdie on...
